The Addictions and Mental Health Worker post-graduate diploma program prepares students to assist clients who are experiencing personal and social problems and includes a 12-week field placement that provides practical, real-world experience and insight. Students will have the skills and hands-on training to pursue opportunities in hospitals, substance abuse centres, long-term care facilities, group care homes, mental health agencies and more.

Accredited by the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation (CACCF), Oxford College prepares students to pursue Canadian Certified Addiction Counsellor (CCAC) certification and is the only Private Career College in Ontario to offer the CACCF-Accredited Addictions and Mental Health program as a post-graduate diploma. Students will receive direct experience in counselling based on the Twelve Core Functions.

Throughout the program, students will follow courses in such topics as basic counselling skills, non-violent crisis intervention, group counselling practices, substance and behavioral addictions, brain stimulation therapies and more. They will learn to interview clients, prepare intakes and refer clients to social assistance programs and community services. They will also help develop a plan to help their clients achieve their goals for mental wellness, sobriety and recovery, and follow up with clients to assess their progress and provide additional support.  

Our Addictions and Mental Health Worker post-graduate diploma program has flexible start dates, so students can get started as soon as they’re ready. Our experienced instructors provide career-focused training in a small, supportive classes. Students will also have access to our career services department, which provides resume and cover letter writing assistance, job search strategies and networking tips.
